Okay so let me be very honest with you, I had no idea who the hell Riff Raff was going to Warped Tour this year, which was quite shocking to some people. One lady in a vendor booth even asked me what rock I had been living under… a very large one. This is why I made it a point to make sure I got to see RiFF Raff’s set; which answered all my questions after doing so.
More To The Show
Riff Raff, for those of you who also live under large rocks, is a rapper from Houston Texas, who also goes by ‘Jody High-roller.’ Since I knew shit about him, I decided to do a little research on him to not be completely clueless comes time for his set. I soon discovered that Riff Raff has been around for quite some time, featured in songs with Slim Jimmy, and Rae Sremmurd and previously in the rap group Three Loco along with comedian Andy Milonakis and also been arrested once in his life…in Greensboro. What are the odds? I also found that he was quite the reality star on shows like MTV’s Making the Band and From G’s to Gents: which again is why I have no idea why I had never heard of him before, but then again I lived under a rock.
To say the least, he is a character, with his hair colored purple and I think blue, in addition to an attire covered in bananas and sprinkled donuts. When I walked past his booth before the show it was like a bad car accident that I had to look. To say the least, the nature of it was rather amusing. I’m pretty sure there was some sort of food or candy on every article of merchandise. I got to give it to the guy, though, he does have his sort of style; with candy colors and elaborate detail.
Wrapping Up The Music
I wasn’t sure what I was about to see once arriving at the set, however, it was pretty entertaining watching him bounce around the stage with Travis Barker from Blink-182 and his big-ass bouncer who was wearing a safari hat. Riff Raff had five bodyguards on tour, which is insane, but after you see how many people go nuts for him; well then I understood why. The set consisted of Travis Barker throwing dollars out into the crowd, blow-up toys, Riff Raff giving me some great footage since I was the only female in the pit, and a bra being thrown on stage from the crowd that happened to land right in front of me. It was insane. But it wasn’t over: once the song “TiP TOE WiNG iN MY JAWWDiNZ” started to play, water started flinging from everywhere. Luckily Go Pro made the cameras waterproof because I was soaked after the set was done. The set was in two words: hot and wet; rightfully fitting for him.
In the end, after my research though and personal experience with him, I’d have to say I feel as if I now fully understand the obsession with Riff Raff. He was like watching a male version of Katy Perry; which funny enough he was an escort to once. And let me advise you if you are faint of heart… you may want to prepare yourself for seeing him live…
Peace out H0m!3
