During my escapades at The Warped Tour in Charlotte, I was lucky enough to meet Singer/Songwriter, Meghann Wright.
Besides being extremely talented and a very relaxed and free-flowing spirit, Meghann was very relaxed and a ball of fun to talk with; making me continuously laugh during our interview session. Meghann’s music is a mix of blues and rock in roll; which reminded me fondly of my girl Amy Winehouse.
First, I got a chance to speak with Meghann about her trip thus far, as it is her first time on The Warped Tour, and she explained to me how it is a dream come true. Originally from Hawaii, Meghann moved to New York City a few years ago and became a Brooklyn resident. Meghann spoke to me about how during the tour she is playing at the Acoustic Basement Stage, and how it’s been a great time interacting with fans in such an intimate setting. The Acoustic Basement stage point-blank is awesome because of its diverse lineup and the ability to connect with fans. Meghann had explained to me that being on tour and being able to play every stop has been a positive learning experience for her; though it does come with its challenges with traveling from city to city.
I learned that Meghann had a self-released EP last year, however just this past June she released her new album “Nothin’ Left To Lose,” which consists of songs composed of stories of love, liquored remembrances, heartbreak, and resilience. Meghann assured me would resonate with anyone who gave them a listen: with tracks 10, 11, and 12 being included in her EP. Meghann said the feedback since the release has been nothing but positive, which I could agree with once I gave it a listen. Personally, her song “Can’t Carry Water” is not only undoubtedly catchy but relateable to anyone who has a boy/girlfriend that they just need to forget about: or at least that’s what I took from it! Meghann’s songs are largely inspired by her adopted hometown of Brooklyn, where her DIY ethos has caught the eye of the music industry and the hearts of fans. Meghann is a big supporter of female artists; because as she put it, “Female rockers are straight-up bad-ass,” which I couldn’t agree more.
Overall, even though the North Carolina heat was getting to us both, my interview with Meghann and the Scary Kind crew was a kick-ass success. I strongly suggest you give Meghann Wright a look and be sure to catch her life this summer on The Vans Warped Tour.
Rock on Bitches,
