Stomach Cancer Awareness Month: Stairway’s for a Cure Fundraiser 2019

Stomach Cancer Awareness Month: Stairway’s for a Cure Fundraiser 2019

November is Stomach Cancer Awareness Month and I take this time to remember my mother and her fight with the disease.

The American Cancer Society’s estimates for stomach cancer in the United States for 2019 are about 27,510 cases of stomach cancer will be diagnosed (17,230 in men and 10,280 in women). Out of those people, about 11,140 people will die from this type of cancer (6,800 men and 4,340 women). My mother in 2015 was one of those deaths. I decided to share with people my mother’s story and create a month-long fundraiser to help raise awareness, research, and put an end to this terrible disease. Last year our fundraiser on Facebook for November raised $375 for the No Stomach For Cancer Foundation.

It will be five years since my mother passed away this upcoming February, but each day it feels like it was yesterday. Not a day goes by when I do not think about her and miss her, which is why it’s so important to help raise awareness. Just earlier this year in August for my birthday and my mother’s birthday, I decided once again to utilize the Facebook Fundraiser feature and organized a fund in honor of her for the No Stomach For Cancer Foundation. Thanks to all of you, we raised $225 in August! My goal for this year’s November fundraiser is to triple it. ($600 here we come)

Stomach Cancer is a silent killer and it needs to be stopped for good. This disease took my mom’s life and if there is one thing I can do in honor of her, it helps make sure it doesn’t happen again. This will be my third year organizing the fundraiser, Stairways for a Cure, which is in honor of my mother, and will for November donate the proceeds to the organization, No Stomach for Cancer. I ask you all to donate in honor of your friends, family, and strangers who may cross your path to help find a cure to stop Stomach Cancer once and for all.

DONATE HERE!

Join me on the stairway to finding a cure and be sure to wear periwinkle in honor of Stomach Cancer Awareness this month. My family and so many other families across the world have lost someone they have loved to Stomach Cancer but by sharing our loved one’s stories we can all be a part of the change and do something that counts.

Please feel free to share your story by email or post in the comments below.

With Love,

Lex Paige
