Yes, I have officially hit my upper twenties, and truthfully I feel no different. Today is my 27th birthday and officially my first-ever quarantine birthday. (Nope, never thought I’d be saying that)
To spend my birthday weekend, my significant other and I will be taking a long weekend adventure to the mountains. I am pumped to be spending the first days as a 27-year-old among nature, because what else could be better? Hiking to waterfalls, and enjoying the fresh mountain air; is going to be nice and I’m excited. But before I go, and don’t worry I’ll tell you all about it in another blog when I get back, I wanted to share with you all my other birthday extravaganza that one of my best friends and very talented photographer Mark helped me accomplish.
See, I love nature (Duh) and I love butterflies. I love the color of their wings, their freedom, and how elegant they are. I also love the spiritual meaning behind butterflies. You may not know this, but some say having a butterfly land on you is a message from heaven. Spiritualists believe that a loved one who may have passed can provide guidance showing themselves as a butterfly, which frankly I believe may be true. A little story I’ll tell you before I get to my point, when I turned 22, it was my first birthday without my mom. She had passed the year before and I had no idea how I could celebrate my birthday without her.

I decided on the morning of my 22nd birthday to go to the beach. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining and the ocean roaring. I took a walk and came back to soak up the sun. Then out of nowhere, a butterfly landed on me. I admit, I cried, but I will never forget the comfort that butterfly gave me. I was going to be okay, I am okay and life was going to continue to be beautiful.
Nearly five years later and I’m happy to tell you all, I’m doing well. My job is good, my family and friends are amazing and except for this whole COVID thing, life is beautiful. But a few weeks ago, I had an idea, and butterflies came to mind. (Literally) After a blue dress was purchased at the thrift store for $6 and some press-on butterflies were found, well…magic happened.
And with that, I leave you all to enjoy my butterfly birthday photoshoot. (27 photos to be exact) Thank you again to one of my best friends Mark for helping me make this happen. And remember…you are never too old to be surrounded by butterflies…or celebrate your special day.
With Love,
Lex Paige
