If you’re in search of the ultimate romantic escape in North Carolina, look no further than Lakeview at Fontana. After our enchanting visit to Lakeview at Fontana in 2022, we couldn’t resist returning this year to reignite our romance and immerse ourselves in the timeless beauty of the North Carolina mountains once again.
The Stay
Remnants of the 1950s resort are still present, offering a unique blend of nostalgia and nature. There are a variety of rooms available at Lakeview at Fontana, including suites with kitchenettes. There is self-check-in at the hotel, which I liked because we visited the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and did not feel rushed for time. The property is 100% smoke-free and observes quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM.
The suite we stayed in had a king-size bed. This was the same room we had during our last visit and it is located in the main building. I will say if you are sensitive to noise, do not choose to stay in the main building. The bed was so comfy and the bathroom came with everything we needed. To promote unplugging and unwinding, the rooms don’t have TVs. I love this because I stare at a screen all week. With no distractions, we had some time to talk, relax, and snuggle together.
What You Can Expect During Your Stay
During our intimate retreat at the resort from Monday to Wednesday, we had the opportunity to take advantage of various amenities and activities. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking and fishing in the Great Smoky Mountains, exploring eateries in Bryson City, and indulging in a Treetop Soaking Cabana. The resort and surrounding area provided an abundance of sights and activities.
Some of the notable features at the resort included:

Things to Do in Bryson City
One of the things I love about the resort is its idyllic location in Bryson City, nestled near the Great Smoky Mountains. Whether you are looking for an invigorating outdoor adventure or a tranquil retreat, the options are plentiful. You can enjoy the beauty of the mountain landscapes, explore picturesque hiking trails, take breathtaking train excursions, immerse yourself in the vibrant downtown area, stroll along the pristine shores of Fontana Lake, and experience the thrill of whitewater adventures on the Nantahala River.
Our mutual affection for nature and quaint mountain communities led us to explore the town and national park. We also had a great meal at CJ’s Grill and enjoyed the local brewery. Additionally, we indulged in a day of fly fishing, leisurely hiking, and tubing along the Deep Creek. To crown it all, the downtown boasts an exceptional Soda Shop offering delectable ice cream – a delightful gem that operates on a cash-only basis. The Treetop Soak
The treetop soaking tub and cabana are what truly make Lakeview at Fontana unique. Here you can enjoy an oversized stand-alone tub, designed for two while taking in the majestic view of Fontana Lake and the Great Smoky Mountains. The cabana, located at the very top of the resort, offers complete privacy and seclusion. After a short stroll through the woods and a few stairs, you’ll be at your magical destination. I have to admit, the soak was just as amazing as it was before.
With the bath salts provided and 90 minutes to enjoy the view with your significant other, it was truly unforgettable. The three cabanas offer incredible views of Lake Fontana and the North Carolina mountains. This time, I brought extra salt and drinks to make the experience even more special. For those who forget, I recommend shopping for these items in advance at the honor market to enhance your soak. When you arrive for your soak, please note that it takes about 20 minutes for the tub to fill up. This is a great time to snack, enjoy a drink, and reconnect with your significant other. For us, we took some memorable photos first and then relaxed on the patio. We were fortunate to enjoy this beautiful day together. Once the tub was filled, we soaked and cherished this romantic experience.
Final Thoughts

My significant other and I both left the resort feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, and even more in love.
